XVenture: Creating Winning Minds with Emotional Agility and Resilience

“There is a body of research that suggests high levels of emotional agility are a marker for success for individuals, teams, and organizations,” remarks Daniela Kraus, director and COO at XVenture. By designing and delivering tailored experiential learning programs focused on developing emotional agility, resilience, and leadership (EARL), XVenture creates “Winning Minds” for businesses, educational institutes, entertainment organizations, and elite sports teams.

XVenture’s origin can be traced back to the “XVenture Corporate Challenge”—a TV show broadcast across Australia and Asia in 2011. The show featured 14 major Australian organizations represented by teams of six people—three men and three women—competing against each other in an array of experiential challenges stimulating business decision-making.

The idea for XVenture Corporate Challenge stemmed from the experiences of Mike Conway, Founder and CEO of XVenture, during the global financial crisis. Conway wanted to safeguard Australian corporations and their work cultures from the crisis’s adverse effects, including the unrest, anxiety, and lack of togetherness faced by employees and leaders in organizations he was dealing with in overseas territories most impacted by the crisis. He proposed a TV series as a means to demonstrate on a macro-level that “regardless of an organization’s products and services, a team of passionate individuals committed to a common purpose will always overcome obstacles of any kind and magnitude.” The feedback from the participants was overwhelming—most of them claimed to have had life-changing experiences. Consequently, they encouraged Conway to convert the show into something that could deliver value to any organization and any industry. Motivated and inspired, Conway eventually founded XVenture.

Fast forward six years and XVenture has created and delivered unique programs to over 5000 people from more than 500 organizations across Australia, New Zealand, China, Singapore, Indonesia, and the UK. The company’s experiential learning programs comprise fun and engaging challenges integrated with neurobehavioral principals, cutting-edge technology, and audiovisual content to enhance participants’ emotional agility, resilience, and leadership qualities.
Each of XVenture’s programs commences with self-reflection and behavioral study of participants. XVenture EARL Measure—a benchmark for emotional agility, resilience, and leadership based on the company’s work thus far—helps identify potential areas of strength and development for individuals and organizations. With these results, XVenture tailors its programs by integrating relevant experiential challenges, research and insights, audiovisual content, and more based on clients’ specific requirements. In the case of a major banking client that was looking for a customized program to address their communication, teamwork, and leadership challenges, XVenture helped enhance the emotional agility scores by 8 percent through a one-day program.

XVenture’s impressive clientele consists of the Australian National Football team, Sydney FC, Steve Waugh Foundation, University of Wollongong, Department of Education, Deloitte, Fox Sports, and KPMG among many others. “Using XVenture’s approach as the Emotional Agility and Mind Coach for Sydney FC, my business partner Mike Conway supported Sydney FC in winning five trophies over the last three A-League Seasons. In addition, we have built and delivered a high school resilience and leadership program for students’ greater success in life beyond the classroom with the ultimate aim of reducing the serious challenges faced around anxiety and depression,” highlights Daniela. Besides, XVenture has created two more nationally televised TV series focused on family and youth, based on the original Corporate Challenge principle.

A big believer in knowledge sharing, XVenture has come up with the “XVenture in a Box” online tool for small and medium-sized businesses that lack the resources needed to access the tailored programs. XVenture in a Box contains multiple experiential challenges and activities, insights from leaders, and case studies packaged with slides, videos, articles, and step-by-step guides on how organizations can design and deliver their own XVenture program. “It is about being cost-effective and accessible to any business that wants to nurture the talent of their employees. In fact, our roadmap focuses on reaching out to as many people and organizations as possible through collaborations and partnerships, creating ‘Winning Minds’ globally,” concludes Daniela.
